Composer, sound artist and multi-instrumentalist based in Eora

Julien Mier is a Dutch–French composer, sound artist, and multi-instrumentalist working across media, performance, and installation. Born and raised in the Netherlands and currently based on the unceded lands of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation (Sydney, Australia), his practice centres on transforming found materials into immersive sonic environments. Drawing on field recordings, discarded objects, and unconventional sound sources, he constructs richly textured compositions that blur the boundaries between music, sound design, and auditory art.

Mier holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Composition & Music Production from HKU University of the Arts Utrecht (Music & Technology, Hilversum), where his research focused on cross-disciplinary collaboration, live cinema, cymatics, and the interplay between social and environmental systems. His work frequently engages with generative processes and embodied data, exemplified by projects such as Piece for Heart & Vibrations, a biofeedback-driven composition, alongside interactive sound design for large-scale audiovisual installations with Borndigital.

A selected participant of SHAPE (Sound, Heterogeneous Art and Performance in Europe), Mier has presented and performed internationally across Europe, the UK, Japan, and Australia. He has shared stages with artists including Plaid, Daedelus, Rival Consoles, Lone, Actress, and Fennesz.

His compositions and sound design have been featured across screen and digital platforms, including the Apple TV series Your Friends & Neighbours, as well as projects with VICE, Adult Swim, and the Oculus Quest series Tales from Soda Island. Mier’s work continues to expand across film, games, and interactive media, with a focus on experiential and spatial sound practices.
